Moving Forward with Confidence

A client of ours reported her husband to the police and he was put into jail.  The police were requested to let her know when the husband would be released.  She did not get the message.  One day after his release, he came looking for her and slashed her from ear to ear.  A neighbor helped tie her chin to keep it from dropping and called 911.

Thanks to OHIP funding plastic surgery was performed. Despite the surgery, she was very self-conscious about the way she looked. She began to isolated herself from people and was convinced she was ugly and that everyone was constantly staring at her. She had stopped looking at herself in the mirror because it would remind her of the assault. 

That was the mindset that she came to us with and we helped empowered her into changing her way of thinking. She was comforted in ways to feel that she was not alone, and that there were others in similar situations. She began coming out of the house more; gaining confidence and more empowered to respond to strangers who ask how she got the scars on her face.
