Help for Cathy’s Sake

Recently, SAFSS helped Cathy, whose story is unfortunately more common than we would like to think.

Cathy is a 25-year-old educated woman with aspirations of becoming an electrical engineer. Cathy came to us in tears, bruises and cuts all over her body – her arms, legs, face, stomach, thighs, hands, arms, ears and head. Her husband of 2 years had been abusive again! A young bride with a 2 ½ year old son, she had found the courage to confront him and ask about his whereabouts and told him that she was aware that he was having an extramarital affair. In response, and in the presence of their son, he threw her to the floor, grabbed her by hair and proceeded to bang her face on the floor and punching her in the face.

Even though she was in excruciating pain and scared for her life and for her son, Cathy did not call the police fearing further retribution. He intimidated her by threatening to have her deported and took away her cell phone so she would have no contact with the outside world. Cathy is not the only victim in this instance. Her son is deeply traumatized and there is no doubt that his experiences at home will have a lasting effect on him.
